In this lockout-shortened, frontline-depleted, reserve-craved season, the Boston Celtics found themselves in Atlanta on a Monday night in desperate search of a win. And with the Big Four playing solid games, and with Brandon Bass doing his thing, the Celtics did indeed steal a game against the Hawks and, for one night anyway, manage to keep the pressure on the Philadelphia 76ers in the Atlantic Division race.
There are rumors that the Celtics are closing to signing a big man to help the cause, and J.J. Hickson is also generating buzz, but tonight it was all about the guys that Doc Rivers had at his disposal. Give our guys an A for effort, because they won a tough game in a hostile environment, and they refuse to roll over and die. Sure, the only people who think the Celtics have a shot at a title are the guys dressed in green and white, but that’s okay. We want them to believe. We want them to accept the challenge, no matter how dire the circumstance, and we want to see them rise up and do the impossible.
Wouldn’t it be incredible to see the Celtics somehow peak at the right time, go on a run in the playoffs, and magically – preposterously – walk away with the hardware? I know, it ain’t gonna happen. But at least let me dream. As long as our guys are out there battling, I’m going to live in a fantasy world where we have a shot.
Just like the rest of the guys in green and white.
