Is Jared Sullinger our man? He sure looks like he’ll slide right into our sweet spot, thanks to the back issues that were recently uncovered. He’s not tall for his position, and he has potential weight issues. To say he’s not overly athletic is an understatement. Oh, and there’s that little thing about his back – might as well be a slipped disc, because it’s caused Mr. Sullinger to slip in the minds of most NBA draft experts, putting him squarely in Danny Ainge’s cross-hairs.
And you know what?
I couldn’t be happier. I hope Sullinger is available when we pick at 21. I hope Ainge has the opportunity to snap him up, because I truly believe Sullinger is going to be a solid NBA player. And when you select at Number 21, that’s all you can hope for.
So what if there are a ton of questions about Ohio’s Mr. Basketball? If you think about what the Celtics need, and what Sullinger brings to the table, I think you can begin to appreciate what it would mean to draft him at Number 21. He has the size to battle underneath the boards, and he has the work ethic and the character that would fit well within the Celtics organization. And as Ainge tries to lure Kevin Garnett back into the fold, drafting a player like Sullinger makes perfect sense.

I doubt the Celtics should take him. He won’t be around for long in the NBA so we will not have a long term guy, he is relativily small, and though he has a high talent level, I just can’t trust this guy to be a future Celtics star.
