Promoted fan post from the Celtic-Nation Forum:
I don’t like either pick. My biggest concern is Boston has to get more athletic now and for the future. Maybe Melo, once he gets into shape, will be a good athlete. But what you see in Sullinger is what you get.
I was a fan of his until the national semi finals and Sully was punked by a skinny shot-blocker. Sully was swatted a handful of times and it was embarrassing to watch. I was almost felt sorry for him. Believe me, it was ugly.
Unless Sully has a dependable mid-range jumper, he will have trouble offensively in the paint. I’m also concerned with him defensively if he has to defend taller, more athletic players. No way he can stay in front of players off the dribble, he’s not blocking many shots, he’s gonna get stuffed repeatedly. He will grab rebounds, but others will cherry-pick over his head.
Melo will be the first Celtic to spend the season with the Maine Red Claws. We’re gonna have to wait and see if he really has untapped potential. I’m concerned because he needs to get in shape still. I have no choice but to give him the benefit of the doubt because of the system he played in didn’t use him offensively and the zone reduced his opportunities to rebound. The lack of production just looks bad.
I’m disappointed in part by how the draft played out. White and Nicholson were off the boards, easing my concern that either would be the selection. But it hurts more with Perry Jones III, Jeffery Taylor and Will Barton still on the board.
Waiting on the second round selection at this point. Hope we get an athletic wing that can put the ball in the bucket in a major way.
