Pssst – Hey, Miami, have you heard the latest free agent rumor regarding Ray Allen?  You remember him, don’t you?  He’s the guy you’ve had the full-court press on for the past week or so.  The guy you covet, the guy you’re convinced you can pry away from your Eastern Conference arch-rival.  And why wouldn’t you think you could get him?  You’re the mighty Heat, right?  Everyone bows down to you, correct?  Well, get ready to be disappointed…maybe….

….knock on wood, don’t want to jinx it, but the chatter in Boston is that Ray Allen may be considering a return to the Celtics.  If true, that would be more great news for Celtics fans who love Allen for his brilliant shooting and for his good-guy persona.  Boston would be keeping one of the greatest three-point shooters in league history, and Allen would presumably come off the bench to extend his career and keep him fresh come playoff time.

Assuming the C’s keep Allen, the questions then focus on who Ainge will pursue next.  Have the C’s cooled on Brandon Bass?  Will they focus their remaining dollars on another wing player – say, a Jason Terry?  That’s the rumor now, but you never know for sure until the ink has dried on the contract.
