Losing Ray Allen is tough. Losing him as a player is not such a big issue, Jason Terry and whoever else we sign should fill his role nicely. The bigger problem is losing Ray, the person. This is a mental lose to Miami for the team, and if the Rondo drama rumors are true, their may be some problems with our big 3 moving forward. Best of luck to Ray Allen in Miami, I hope he has a great season, and stays as classy as he has ever been. When it comes to facing Miami, we all want to crush you. I am praying that we meet the Heat in the playoffs and dispose of them like the bag of garbage that they are.
However, we have some flexible options for filling out the roster gaps moving forward.
Bigs: Kevin Garnett, Brandon Bass, Jared Sullinger, Fab Melo, and JaJuan Johnson
Wings: Paul Pierce, Jeff Green, and Kris Joseph (should we decide to sign him)
Guards: Rajon Rondo, Avery Bradley, Jason Terry, and E’Twaun Moore
If you’re keeping track that’s 12 players if we include Kris Joseph. We have two assets moving forward, the Bi-Annual Exception (about $1.9 million), and we have the bird rights to Nenad Krstic.
To me, I see two holes at center (yes, I know Garnett can play center, too)
1. Center – We can bring in Camby at the Bi-Annual, or Krstic at MLE money (we have his bird rights). We can re-sign Stiemsma, or we could move Garnett to center.
2.Shooting guard – We can re-sign Pietrus. Or we could take a flyer on a guy like Gerald Green, Michael Redd, Tracy McGrady, Kelenna Azuibuike, Courtney Lee (for a discount) or even Carlos Delfino (for a discount). Alternatively we could get 2 of these guys by not signing Kris Joseph, or by just signing one center.
