Undersized for his position? Trouble getting his shot off against bigs? Too heavy? Not athletic enough? Back of the mic, chillies, you’ve had your say and it’s old news – we know the rap on Jared Sullinger, but the man can flat out ball. You’re seeing it in the Orlando Summer League, but I know you’re already scoffing at the competition he’s dropping shots against. Sullinger is going to prove you all wrong, because he’s too smart and too motivated to fail.
Just you wait until he gets his groove on in the regular season. He’ll come off the bench, in The Jungle, and he’ll turn the TD Garden into his house. He’ll have it flat-out rocking, because we as fans can identify with Sullinger – he’s blue collar, like Big Baby, but with less baggage and not a trace of the headache.
Sullinger will lose the weight. He’ll get stronger. He’ll figure out a way to get his shot of in the paint against players bigger than him. Look at Charles Barkley – he was undersized for his position but he did just fine. Sullinger has an offensive game. He can score the basketball.
Don’t know about you, but I’m feeling Sullinger’s flow – you watch him and you can’t help but wonder what he’s going to look like with some polish, and with players like Rondo and Garnett on the court with him, doing what they do, while the Ohio State rookie gives his defender absolute fits. Don’t think it’s possible? Don’t think it’s going to happen? Please, please, please – how many ways can I say this…Jared Sullinger dropped like a rock in the draft, but that’s fine, Danny Ainge positively vandalized the draft when he picked the plummeting big man who developed an eleventh hour case of back issues. Somebody stop me, because I’m running and gunning with the fact that Sullinger finished with 16 points (on 7-of-12 shooting) and eight rebounds against the Indiana Pacers’ summer league fodder. I’m making too much out of this, no?
No thank you, I don’t think I’ll back off the mic, my chillies, not with my man Sully looking better each time he steps on the floor. The TD Garden will be Sullinger’s house, and it will be his to quake. I’m telling you, we’re going to witness something truly special with this guy, this year, and there will be plenty of NBA execs kicking themselves for passing on Jared Sullinger.
But Danny Ainge won’t be one of them.
Not with Sullinger hellbent on proving everyone wrong.
