Has it really been 19 years ago today that Reggie Lewis died? July 27, 1993. Nineteen years? I can’t believe that the time has passed so quickly, because it seems like yesterday that he was the foundation for the next generation of Celtics Greatness. Instead, Reggie died from that heart issue and the Celtics went into a dark place for more than a decade.
I loved watching Reggie play. I loved the way he conducted himself on and off the court. It’s a shame that his life was cut short, and not in terms of basketball. It makes me sad to think of all of the life he’s missed in the nineteen years since he collapsed shooting baskets at Brandeis University.
First Len Bias from a cocaine overdose, and then Reggie Lewis with heart failure.
At least we received two blessings this past season, when both Jeff Green and Chris Wilcox were diagnosed and treated before anything happened to them. Thank God for that. I don’t think it’s the universe’s way of making up for what happened to Bias and Lewis, but at least Green and Wilcox won’t have to face the same fate.
Sure puts losing Game 7 to the Heat in perspective.

RIP indeed. My favorite Celtic of all-time.
