Once upon a time, players who reached Paul Pierce’s age were either long gone from professional sports or a sad imitation of their former selves. That was then. This is now. Pierce is 34, soon to 35, but he plays basketball in an era where training, nutrition and medicine have never been better, the perfect confluence to keep elite athletes looking good in their Golden Years. And with Pierce about to embark on another quest for a second championship ring, this time without Ray Allen, it’s worth noting that The Truth has another weapon in his arsenal: A seriously good (and deep) bench.
Think about it: Jeff Green; Jason Terry; Jason Collins; Jared Sullinger; Keyon Dooling; Chris Wilcox.
Not bad, not bad at all. Gotta love it if you’re a Celtics fan, gotta really love it if you’re Pierce.
And you can bet your bottom dollar that Pierce will be a lot fresher (and hopefully a lot healthier) this time around. And that, my friends, could very well spell the difference between our Celtics coming up short or winning an 18th NBA Championship.
