Was sitting here jamming to Swim Good by Frank Ocean, and had a random thought about a newspaper add that Dwight Howard recently placed in the Orlando Sentinel.  After everything – the on-again, off-again demands to stay and be traded, after all of the rumors about how he would only play for the Brooklyn Nets – after all of that, Howard had the nerve to send a love letter to the Magic fans, thanking them for his time in a Magic uniform.

To play the game of basketball in the NBA is a blessing and to have had the  opportunity to play before the Orlando fans for eight years was truly a  privilege and an honor.  Words cannot  express the love that I have for Orlando. With your support we have done great  things in this city from hanging banners to impacting our youth. — Dwight Howard

Holy hell.  Howard did nothing but stick it to the owner, the head coach, the coaching staff and the fans.  And then he moves on and blows his former employer and the Magic faithful a playful kiss.  I’m not down with that, and I’m sure that the Magic fans aren’t, either.  It’s just further proof that Howard is an idiot.  But Superman landed on his feet, cape intact, and the Los Angeles Lakers have their Next Dominant Center.  Yeah, the Lakers will point to having to give away Andrew Bynum to get Howard, but they lusted after Howard and wanted to jettison Bynum at the first opportunity.

And now Howard begins anew in Los Angeles, and the Lakers are the prohibitive favorites to win the next NBA Championship.  Howard will smile that big smile, all teeth and innocence, and he’ll pretend to entertain a move to Brooklyn next summer.  Ain’t happening.  Howard will love it in LA.  Hollywood will keep him entertained, and vice versa.

But what about the Magic and their faithful?  They’ve been burned to the ground much in the same way that Sherman burned Atlanta during the Civil War.  The team is starting over, again, while Howard and the Lakers look to hang another banner in the Staples Center.

Howard, do us all a favor – don’t act so f-ing innocent.  You’re anything but that.

Oh, and Brooklyn fans – don’t hold your breath waiting on Howard to join your cause.  He’ll be a free agent, but he won’t be changing addresses.
