With the season starting today, I know 99% of fantasy basketball leagues have been assembled, but that doesn’t mean I can’t provide you with the inside scoop on who to buy and sell. My first buy of the year is someone who is probably available in about half of the leagues and who is definitely worth picking up as a utility player, or in deeper leagues a starter. If you listen to the Celtic-Nation Podcast, then you probably know I’ve had a bromance with Greivis Vasquez for a while now.
If you are unfamiliar with him, then I will fill you in. Vasquez just got a new contract for the next 2 seasons and he’s the new starting PG for the Hornets. That means he’ll be throwing lobs to Davis and dishing out treys to Gordon. He’s a little over 6’5 so it’s easy to see him get into the passing lanes, as well as grab 3 or 4 rebounds a game. If rebounds, assists, and steals aren’t enough to convince you, his 80+% FT should be the icing on the cake. His downfall is he won’t score 20 points often, if at all, and he doesn’t shoot a high percentage, 42% over his career. Luckily for you, he doesn’t shoot a lot, so he shouldn’t affect your team’s FG% too much. I wouldn’t trade Westbrook for him but if he is a free agent, go sign him now.
My projected stats for him this year-
12 pts – 3.5 rebs – 8 asts – 1.2 stls – 0.1 blks – 43%FG – 40 3FGM – 82% FT
