This time instead of telling you who to steal from your competition, I’m going to tell you who to pawn off and ruin a few of their weeks. First, well talk about the former Big Ten guard’s strong points, ie your selling points when convincing your opponents how it’s an “even trade.” Evan Turner came out of Ohio State, where he carried the entire team all season and then became a top prospect coming into the NBA, which people still remember and hold some hope for. Unfortunately for Turner, he was drafted to a team that preaches teamwork instead of riding star talent. This, along with having Iggy in front of him, doing what Turner does but better, severely limited his time to shine. With Iggy gone, and a talented scoring big man, you’d think a versatile guard would get more playing time, open shots from the extra attention paid to Bynum, and assists from passing to possibly the best offensive center in the game.
But remember, you want to sell this guy, so exit smoke and mirrors here comes the reality. While Evan Turner carried OSU, he does NOT have the skill set in this league yet to carry the Sixers. He is the classic jack of all trades, but master on none. While he can score, he doesn’t always do so efficiently normally resulting in low FG% and high turnovers. So, my prediction is simple, you have 9 categories of fantasy scoring, and he can deliver in 4…sometimes. Maybe if you’re in a deep league or you can’t get a good offer you can keep him, but I’m not as high on him as most. A poor man’s Joe Johnson, minus lights out jump shooting doesn’t quite cut it for my squad.
My season prediction for Evan Turner:
10.8 pts – 7.1 rebs – 3.3 assts – 1.1 stls – 0.3 blks – 39%FG – 25 3FGM – 74%FT – 2.3 TO
I also want to make a prediction on Ricky Rubio when he makes it back from injury. He is worth a roster spot TODAY because there will be little to no drop off in his game after he shakes off the cob webs. A player like Rubio doesn’t thrive off his athleticism anyway, so the parts of his game that makes him great, he should still be able to do at a high level. I expect a solid FT percentage along with some 3 pointers and his trademark passing as an assist man. Even in a 10 team league, he is worth a spot on your bench.
