Darko Milicic was not with the Celtics in Detroit last night due to personal matters. That matter turns out to be an illness that is plaguing the big man’s mother.
As a result, the Serbian native is heavily considering leaving the team and returning to Europe for the remainder of the season.
The move, which of course would be understandable, would be a considerable blow to an undersized Celtics team.
If Milicic were to return to Europe it would certainly ramp up the Boston’s need to add a big man. Say, Kenyon Martin?
Martin is just 6”9, however, he is a very skilled defender and would ease the transition of when Kevin Garnett goes to the bench. He would also play more frequently than Milicic, who has played just five minutes in one game.
We wish Milicic and his mom all the best. Hopefully his mom pulls through this and hopefully the 7-footer remains a Celtic. However, if he doesn’t, Martin is a very good replacement and in some areas an upgrade.
