Kris Joseph started strong in his D-League debut last week, scoring 28 points and looking very NBA-ready in the process. Problem is, the Boston Celtics have plenty of players with playoff experience at his position, so cracking the Celtic roster will be harder than it was for someone like E”Twaun Moore. Timing, as they say, is everything.
Which is why Joseph needs to ball hard with the Red Claws. He has the talent to play NBA hoops, but he needs to keep working on his game so that he’s ready when opportunity knocks.
Joseph can create his own shot, and he can get to the rack. He plays decent defense. There is a lot to like if you are Danny Ainge. But Joseph needs to play each game with an edge, like someone stole his lunch money or talked shit about his momma on the playground. Fuel for the fire. Motivation however he can manufacture it.
I like Kris Joseph. I think he’s going to be a good pro. I just hope Ainge gives him a chance to prove himself, because players like Joseph tend to get bundled in trades and shipped from team to team. Just look at Moore, or his Purdue / Boston teammate JaJuan Johnson. In the fold one minute. Gone the next.
My advice to Joseph?
Stay thirsty, my friend.
And ball hard.
