If anyone on our Celtics needs a pick-me-up – literally and figuratively – it’s our man Paul Pierce. Pierce was faked out of his shoes AND his jock last night by Joe Johnson of the Brooklyn Nets. Trust me, it wasn’t pretty. If you haven’t seen it, check it out on YouTube:
Embarrassing – especially given that the whispers about Paul’s age have started to become louder this season. Johnson made our man Pierce look absolutely, positively ancient. It was painful to watch, especially after watching Pierce in all of his greatness in seasons past.
And that’s why Pierce needs to ball hard now more than ever before. He needs to reach down deep and find that fountain of youth, and somehow get that famous Pierce swagger back. I don’t want to see him go out looking like Willie Mays, legs gone, unable to chase down that outfield fly. No, we don’t want it to come to that. So I’m hoping Pierce balls hard and proves the doubters and the haters wrong.
We need Paul Pierce doing his thing.
Ball hard, Captain.
