Something is seriously wrong with the Celtics. We’re barely above .500, and I think I know why. KG and Pierce are no longer able to carry the team every game offensively, and Rondo has failed to become the alpha dog on our team that we need him to be.
This may be unpopular, but for Christmas I think we should send Rondo packing in exchange for multiple players.
“Why?” you cry. For these following reasons:
Sometimes trading a star player can give you the depth to compete. A prime example being the Denver Nuggets. They turned Anthony into Gallinari, Chandler, Mozgov, Felton, a 2012 2nd round pick (Quincy Miller *puke*), a 2013 2nd round pick and a 2014 1st round pick.
I’m the first to admit, I probably undervalue Rondo. I do think that most of you over value him, and calling him the best point guard in the NBA is a joke. I would take Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook, and Derrick Rose (provided he comes back healthy) over Rondo any day. That’s not taking anything away from the guy, I still like him more than Deron Williams, Kyrie Irving, Steve Nash, Steph Curry, Mike Conley, Brandon Jennings, Jrue Holiday, Tony Parker, Goran Dragic, Kyle Lowry, Ricky Rubio, Damian Lillard, Ty Lawson, Tyreke Evans, and John Wall.
Here’s the thing, we have a talent in Rondo, some teams think he’s a solid starter, not an all-star, some rank him just right (an all-star), while some think he’s a franchise player. We need to trade him to a team that thinks he’s a franchise player, and we can bring back a haul of talented pieces to help KG and Pierce win 1 more ring.
IF, we were to trade Rondo, we would need to bring back a package that includes a starting point guard, and a big that can rebound, and block shots or score.
Here is a list of what following teams may be able to offer:
ATL: Teague & Horford for Rondo and Green
-
CHA: Walker, Biyombo and Diop
-
DEN: Lawson & McGee – this would need to be a 3 way, as Lawson has a poison pill
-
DET: Knight, Drummond and Prince for Rondo.
-
HOU: Lin, Asik and Jones for Rondo and Bass.
-
MEM: They wouldn’t want Rondo, they want to improve their spacing
-
MIL: Jennings, Sanders, Dalembert and a 2014 1st for Rondo and Melo.
-
MIN: They won’t trade us Rubio, so no point. I’d take Love, but Rondo would need to go to a 3rd team. If we bought back Ridnor (POS) I wouldn’t be able to watch the team.
-
PHI: Holiday and Hawes.
-
PHO: Dragic, Gortat, Dudley and 2 x 1sts for Rondo and Green
-
SAC: Evans and Cousins. Or Evans, Thompson and a pick.
-
UTA: Favors and Mo WIlliams.
-
WAS: Wall (healthy), Nene (healthy) and Webster for Rondo and Green.
That’s a lot of different player combinations. You may say that they are unrealistic trades, but I dare say that at least one of those GMs believes that Rondo is a superstar, and that’s the sucker we require to pull of a coupe like this.
Imagine bringing back Jennings, Sanders, Dalembert, and a pick for Rondo and Melo? Or even better, we take the pick out, and swap Bass and Mbah a Moute as well.
We end up with a rotation of:
CT: Sanders/ Dalembert/ Wilcox/ Collins
PF: Garnett/ Mbah a Moute/ Sullinger
SF: Pierce/ Green/ Joseph
SG: Bradley/ Lee/ Barbosa
PG: Jennings/ Terry
That’s a championship contender. Added defense and shooting.
