Who said revenge is best served cold? Try telling that to our Boston Celtics, who came out hot and dominated the Brooklyn Nets in a rematch between division rivals. Clearly, there is no love lost between these two teams, as things turned testy in the second half between Kevin Garnett and Gerald Wallace. Wallace was fouled with 9:31 remaining and appeared to hold onto Garnett’s uniform to balance himself and not fall. But Garnett objected to how long Wallace hung on, and they said something to each other as they tried to push themselves free. That led to technical fouls on the two, along with Andray Blatche andCourtney Lee.
There were some very good takeaways from this game. It was a coming out party of sorts for Jared Sullinger, who tied a career high with 16 points and did so on the NBA’s Christmas Day stage. And how about Jeff Green? Green added 15 points off the bench, helping to provide the punch needed when the Celtics starters rested.
Ultimately it was Rajon Rondo who set the tone, finishing with 19 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and three steals to redeem himself after getting tossed in the last meeting between these two teams.
Rondo may not have had as many assists as he’s used to, but he was more aggressive on both ends of the court and the Celtics were all the better for it.
Gotta love Rondo doing what he does best on Christmas Day!
