By: Cory Booker @FanOfGreen | You remember way back when Wallace was a potential all-star? He was that one player you didn’t want to go up against because of his hustle, athleticism, and fearlessness. Even the FBI wanted to hire Crash, to probably save the world and all that. Problem is, that was then and this is now. He is still a great glue guy and a strong defender, but as far as fantasy basketball goes, this guy is trash.
I’ll admit, it’s hard to go against his production in the past, but it’s not about yesterday, it’s about today. Wallace is AT BEST, the fourth offensive option on his team. Actually to be honest, I don’t think they run plays for him at all. I think his hustle puts him in the right position. Some people may say hustle guys are good for fantasy, but that’s not true. Big men who hustle are worth picking up, but swingmen, not so much. Another problem with Crash is the roster. Deron Williams and Joe Johnson can both shoot and create for others, but Wallace isn’t a consistent three point shooter, and with Lopez clogging the paint, there’s not a lot of room for him to cut and finish without traffic.
The silver lining in the situation if you DO have Wallace on your team is the coaching change. You can tell your potential trade partner that you don’t want to wait for him to learn the new offense, but once he does, he’ll improve. This is true, but with the other options on that team I can’t see him being more than a rotational utility player (unless you’re in a deep league).
