Since the return of Eric Gordon, the team’s primary scorer and premier on-ball defender,
the Hornets are 6-2.
Despite the recent surge, New Orleans is still in the basement of the Southwest Division.
The primary key to earning a victory tonight is defense.
In Monday’s win, Boston held Charlotte’s four guards to just 18-49 shooting.
They key is not just the guards but the interior defense as well. Stopping penetrations while everyone else rotates to cover up passing lanes is just as crucial as the man on the ball.
During the current win-streak, the Celtics team defense has been sensational. They have done an excellent job communicating, with rotations and rebounding. This has led to easier offense and limiting opponents’ second-chances.
A strong defensive performance tonight will likely extend the win-streak to seven games.
The second-key is team-offense.
As of late, Boston has done a good job of testing teams defense. Look for them to continue to work the shot clock and move the ball around, seeking to exploit holes in the Hornets rotations.
The third and final key is the bench. The Celtics depth has been on full-display these past six games and has truly been a blessing for the team. With the likes of Courtney Lee, Jason Terry, Jared Sullinger, and Jeff Green making significant contributions, the team is beginning to prove why they remain one of the top threats in the Eastern Conference.
