It’s no secret that Brandon Bass has under-performed for the Boston Celtics this season. We know he’s not happy with his play, and feels that he should be doing more to help his team. He’s also quick to point to playing time and offensive opportunities as reasons for the statistical decline from last season to the current campaign. And whether he says so or not, he understands that two players – Jared Sullinger and Jeff Green – have crowded him to a large degree, from opposite ends of the spectrum: Sully from the inside out, and Green from the outside in.
With that said, there are rumors swirling that Danny Ainge is ready to pull the trigger on a trade. Could Bass end up being squeezed right out of Boston?
One thing’s for certain – Doc Rivers has squeezed Bass out of the starting lineup, at least against the Heat. In his place steps the energetic, undersized rookie who is getting the most out of his frame. And if Doc is willing to shake things up by benching Bass, you know that Ainge won’t hesitate to pull the trigger if a trade can be had to bring the Celtics some much-needed size.
