Time for the Celtics to focus on Jeff Green? I think so. Look, we’re paying Green major green, and he proved during the Heat game that he can defend LeBron James – okay, as much as James can possibly be defended. With Paul Pierce representing the past, isn’t it time to start running the offense through Green to a degree?
Before you scream ‘blasphemy’, and before you say that Green is incapable of being The Man, why not be open-minded to the idea of at least trying out Green as the go-to guy? Who knows, it might turn out to be the best thing to happen to both Green and Pierce. Heck, Doc Rivers brought Ray Allen off the bench last year, so why not turn The Truth into Six Man Extraordinaire? It would help keep him fresh, provide punch off the bench, and infuse the starting unit with a fresh set of legs.
Come on, Doc, give it a try. You’re currently sitting in no-man’s land as the eighth seed, which would mean facing the Heat in the opening round of the playoffs. What’s the worst that can happen? You stay slotted at the eight? You miss the playoffs and have a shot at winning the NBA Draft Lottery and starting over?
