Looks like the worst-case scenario has just played itself out for Jared Sullinger and the Boston Celtics. Sullinger will have season-ending surgery on that problematic back, and will miss the rest of the season.
Losing Sullinger is a big blow for our Celtics, who are thin on the front line to begin with. And now we lose one of our most productive bigs, further clouding the Celtics’ immediate future and casting doubt on the viability of this season’s squad.
The loss of Sullinger may spur Danny Ainge to move quickly in his quest to acquire a legit big, but the options are limited and Ainge doesn’t have a ton of wiggle room at this point, at least not without giving up a cornerstone of the current team.
Ainge will go out of his way not to appear desperate, but one has to think that these are desperate times for the Celtics top basketball boss.
Who could Ainge move? At this point anyone is one the table, but I don’t see him parting with either Paul Pierce or Kevin Garnett. It will likely be Brandon Bass, Jason Terry or Courtney Lee, or a combination of those players if the right asset could be had.
Stay tuned, it just got a whole lot more interesting.
