If Danny Ainge is smart – and he seems to be – then he should walk away from the Kevin Garnett for Caron Butler and Eric Bledsoe deal. Butler is 32 years old, plays small forward, and is in his tenth NBA season. Bledsoe is a backup point guard who is good enough and young enough to start on most teams, and while he would start until Rajon Rondo returns, what happens then?
Trading away Garnett would decimate our size inside, take away our strongest locker room leader, and effectively end any serious playoff hopes that this team might have. Oh, the C’s might limp into the playoffs as a seven or eight seed, but then it gets ugly real quick.
And what about Paul Pierce? You bring in a 32-year old small forward to take The Truth’s minutes? Or maybe spell him off the bench? Isn’t that Jeff Green’s job, to some degree?
No, this deal smacks of a big time mistake, unless Ainge is ready to turn the page and there are other trades in the works that we don’t know about.
Forget about it, Danny.
Stay the course, and if you need to make a deal to satisfy an itchy trigger finger, then focus on Greg Oden.
