Rumor has it that Ainge is interested in signing the recently released Michael Finley. While I respect him as a pro, my problem is adding him to the team means an old team gets older.

Isn't there another player out there that's 10 years younger than Finley that can shoot 3s and play defense? I mean, the way this roster is built, the future is bleak when age starts catching up to the over 30 crowd. Shoot, the team is already showing signs. If Ainge doesn't start taking steps to fill the cubboard with talented youth that he won't trade away, the Celtics will crash and burn very quickly. Maybe as soon as next season.

I agree that the team is getting too old and what do we need with yet another oldster. But wouldn't this be one of those "for the remainder of the season" things, where he probably wouldn't return next year, as with Antoine Walker that one season, and several others over the past few years? He might help us get further in the playoffs. The bench is really hurting for scorers. You can tell that Glen Davis has the green light to shoot, otherwise they wouldn't be playing him these extended minutes (as against Detroit) and letting him shoot so much. You know you're in trouble when Davis is your go-to guy on the floor!

Speaking of these mid-season trades - anyone know if Nate Robinson is another of these "remainder of the season" deals? Are we likely to have himn next year, or will he probably be gone by next season? I'm interested, and this is related to the topic in this thread, because he IS young, unlike most of these mid-season acquisitions.

The team doesn't have anyone that can shoot and play the 3. Finley fits the bill. It's not like they're signing him for an entire season, just for the playoffs.

They don't have any Bird rights to Nate Robinson, so any money they use to sign him needs to come out of the MLE. (I suppose Ainge could petition the league to use the non-Bird exception to sign KryptoNate to an extension, but I expect that he'll get the same answer that McHale did when he requested permission to do the same thing with Marcus Banks.) This was why I pointed out that the failure to trade Ray Allen essentially locked them into this roster for the next three years.

This year plus 2 years. No way they have ray out there past the end of KG's contract, unless it is a team option where he can easily be released.

Am I the only one unconvinced Finley would be an improvement over Tony or Daniels? Sure, Finley's probably still a better three-point shooter than either one, but Tony and Daniels have both been pretty solid overall this year.

Finley might be a more accurate 3 shooter, but that's about it. Can he move his old bones and defend at an acceptable level? Didn't Ainge have an interest in Bruce Bowen until he retired?

I'm more interested in big man depth if there's any out there. Anyone available? Even in the D-League besides Haseem Thabeet? :D

No, you're not the only one. Include me too. However, he might be a good complement to them, assuming you enough room (and money) on the roster for yet another SF. I think I'd prefer Daniels, generally speaking, to whatever Finley brings, but Tony is so erratic that I never know what to expect from him (except that he'll miss most of his jump shots, and lately, most of this foul shots). So I think it depends on what type of player you need on the court in a given situation - i.e. how the teams match up at the moment.
