Hey guys, I've been MIA for a good while but I assure you that I've remained true to our Boston Celtics. I had to re-register though because of the renovations  . Good to be back though.
Anyways, I know that we're all very upset about the outcome of the Finals series, especially because we lost to our greatest rival in the Lakers. What upset me more than the loss was that this might have been the last time we're contenders for a while. Some of you may think we still have a chance, and you may be right, but the opinion I have come to through watching the play of of our guys is that we'll be taking a break from the Finals.
It's more than one thing that will keep us from excelling. First and foremost is our age and, at the same time, inexperience. KG is obviously on the decline of his career. You can say that he just wasn't able to reach 100% after his surgery, but I think its a lot worse than that. Ray's been having a lot of ups and downs, but its been a lot more downs than ups. He broke a Finals record for threes in a game, but other than that, he's been mediocre at best. I thought Pierce was showing his age, but he proved me wrong in much of the series. Unfortunately (sorry for the constant pessimism), I feel as though he was just milking what he had left in the tank. As for Sheed, he's pretty much done. There have been rumors of his retirement and from his back pains and Doc's comments, its pretty much a lock that he will be gone.
Experience wise, our bench sucks. Big baby has been a great asset, and Nate Rob has had great looks in the last two series. TA's been a staple back up. But these guys aren't ones to bring us a championship.
On top of that, Doc may be leaving us to spend time with his family, and Thibodeau is off to the Bulls.
This isn't a thread to cry about everything that I think will kill our Celtics. It's meant to site our problems and see what options the Cs have to get over them and keep from being a mediocre team for the next decade.
One option I've had in mind is piecing apart the team and acquiring some draft picks. I'd like to do a S&T with Ray and also trade KG for a couple of good picks. Of course we'll be throwing in other pieces and some dough. I think Pierce should stay here and remain a likelong Celtic. He's stated that as being a goal of his and he would be a great mentor for his successor. There's no way we're getting rid of Rondo, and Perk is a key player for us also. We do, however, need to find a legit back up for Perk. I think that's the main thing that cost us the Championship. Perk is highly underrated and when he went down, our hopes went out the door. Nate Rob is a great back up at the 1 and provides a tremendous spark of the bench. Big baby is also a great player off the bench who can contribute to the starting lineup if someone were to go down.
The coming draft is not exactly the best, but we can definitely get some gems out of it. We really need to find Perk's back up. Two possible options are Hassan Whiteside and , with a lower pick, Larry Sanders. Both are long, defensive centers and would let Perk get more breathers. The other guy I really want is Xavier Henry. Some mocks have him being taken high, others have him taken just a couple picks before us. Regardless, we should try to make a move to grab this guy. He would make the perfect successor to Pierce and would be able to learn from Pierce for a season or two.
Sorry for the long post guys, just a lot going through my head after the disappointing loss and wanted to get some of it out. Let me know what yall think and how you would handle the future of our beloved Boston Celtics.
