The Portland Trailblazers waived SF kRyan Gomes. He was acquired in a Draft Daky trade with the Timberwolves.

We need a backup Small Forward. Ryan has 5 yrs. experience, and would fill the void.

11 Pts. -- 45% FG -- 37% "3"'s -- 83 % FS -- 5 Rebounds

Thoughts?

I had seen that he was released and immediately thought of him coming back to the Celtics. Not sure if we could get him for a good price, but if Pierce really is going elsewhere, Ryan could come in and play some SF for us, though I'd hope we had someone better starting ahead of him. He's not a star, but has definite value.

Pierce may still come back after testing the waters, but after his precipitous fall off this season and especially during the playoffs, I'd be scared of much more than 3 years. We didn't think Posey was worth 4 years, and at this point I don't think Paul is going to have much left in the tank once he hits 35/36 because it already is leaking.

I was always a big Ryan Gomes fan when he was here, and I would love to see him come back for cheap.

As far as Paul Pierce goes, boy do I hope he comes back. Despite his "precipitous fall off" he was arguably the best player for a team that went to a seventh game in the finals and was within a back injury to our starting center away from winning the whole thing.

He's not the player he was at 27 or 28 (for better, and worse), but unless Danny really out does himself and finds an absolute diamond in the rough, there's no way we have the funds to bring in a small forward even close to the caliber of Paul Pierce.

I love Ryan Gomes, but I'm not going to kid myself into thinking he'll ever be a Paul Pierce replacement.

I always Liked Ryan. Good guy- Local from CT, Providence. Not a star but certainly serviceable, and capable of a big game once in a while. Would be a good 6th man type, a hustle/garbage player with a decent shot. A glue guy who does the little things, though not the best defender. Rebounds reasonbly well for his size. Probably not a starter but could start in stretches against lower, and medium talented opponents and would be effective.

We would be lucky to have him, especially with all the moving parts this off season. He's no paul pierce, but he's also quiet and doesn't get himself in trouble with the press either...comparable to a poor man's scott wedman, or a souped up steve kuberski, though wedman was an all star..- someone in that mold though. reasonably dependable. And after last year where we can be up or down big at different junctures of a game, perhaps a steady eddie is what we need.

I wouldn't mind seing Troy Murphy on this team either, but I know he's a bit expensive relative to his contribution. But without Perk and sheed, were going to need a guy who can start, provide some offense and rebounding punch-and can transition to being a very potent backup. I hear they might be making a play for Brad Miller...

I hope we can bring back Gomes for the right price.

I also hope that Pierce re-signs with the Celtics, but I'd keep it down to 3 years with maybe a club option for a fourth year, not a player option. Pierce is one of my all time favorite Celtic, but the unfortunate truth is that he isn't even close to what he was a couple of years ago. The wear and tear have taken a step and a hop away from him, and he's not as dead eye as he used to be. He also isn't washed up, and had Daniels come anything close to what we had expected from him during the season, then Paul may have been in a lot better condition for the Playoffs. That's why signing a Gomes type player can help a lot if we do re-sign Pierce to cut his minutes down and preserve him. Ditto for Garnett and Allen if he re-signs. That was the intention last season and it never really panned out and the Big Three weren't so big by the time the Playoffs progressed, and even so we almost had enough to hang on and win game 7 seven in LA. That's why I think with the right complimentary players (like we thought we had this past season) that there still may be enough gas left in those 3 to carry the team to another title. But, this won't happen if we can't get significant quality play from the bench players while resting the starters. Not so easy a task to accomplish.

I do think that Harangody will be a pleasant surprise this season, maybe a combination of Davis and Powe and provide some good energy and production off the bench. He's a 4 year veteran from the Big East, so he's played against some of the better players over that time span. He's ready for the next level, which will challenge him more than he's ever been challenged, and that may be just what makes his motor hum.

I'd rather see them make a run at David Lee than Gomes.

Gomes and Lee are beasts of a different contract size.

Gomes around $3 - $4 million. Lee around $11 - $13 million.

The moment I heard about Gomes getting released, I began hoping for a reunion. He would be a great player to bring off the bench as a power 3. He's also extended his range and now has a 3-point shot. And I'm sure he still has the ability to rebound.

Yes, Gomes isn't a great athlete like I wanted out of the draft, but he could fortify a bench that was inconsistent last season. I think he could play great team defense with us. He would be the kind of veteran we need on this roster since the Celts don't have salary cap space to speak of. Hope Ryan has no hard feelings going back to that trade.

Since we know Al Jefferson is available, if money wasn't an issue, who would want him back?

Gomes = joke.

You'll need more than Gomes to make it through the first round.
