I was thinking of the idea of letting Paul Pierce and Ray Allen walk this year and then go after LeBron James? Then to fill the Ray Allen void we could go after Rasual Butler who is cheaper and score on any given night.
Pierce isn't a free agent, he's got an opt-out clause which he's nearly certain not to exercise. Even if he did and they both walked the C's wouldn't have enough cap room for a max deal because of Rondo's extension, so they aren't going to be major players in free agency unless they work out some sign-and-trade.
EDIT: Assuming Ray doesn't get traded before the Feb deadline, look for Danny to try to re-sign Ray, work out extensions for Pierce and Perkins, and maybe try to find a player in free agency with the mid-level exception this summer.

LeBron is the best in the league, but I'd take Pierce over him any day. Most underrated player in the NBA, in my opinion.

Only happens if Boston turns Ray into a deal that expires next year (say a deal with Utah where Ray gets flipped for AK-47 & New York's #1) so that they have an expiring deal next year to facilitate the trade.

They can't use it this offseason can they because they used it on Sheed. i don't think you can do it 2 years in a row.

You can use the MLE every year, it's the low-level exception that can only be used once every two years.

It's my understanding that the mid-level exception is available for use every year regardless of what happened the previous off-season, provided that teams are either over the cap or would be over the cap if they signed someone to the mid-level exception. I believe that you're thinking of the bi-annual exception(aka lower-level exception), which was used on Marquis Daniels this past offseason.

I was nighthob before I was BillyKnight, since the board got reset I went back to my old username.
Zombie BK just sounds so much better. Theoretically though, since you brought this username back from the dead, would that make you zombie nighthob?
