Okay, I was thinking the other day - What if Reggie Lewis were still alive, in his prime and still a member of the Boston Celtics? What if the heart problem didn't exist? And, basically, what would the upcoming version of the Boston Celtics look like with him on a roster loaded with the Big Three, Rondo, Perk, Shaq, Jermaine O'Neal, etc.? Just how dangerous would these Celtics be?

Speaking of what if scenarios, check this one out!

We could have had an amazing team. Stupid Bias. I would have loved to have watched the Celtics vs Bulls match ups of the 90's. Pippen vs Bias and Jordan vs Lewis. WOW!

Speaking of Len Bias - man, what an athlete, what a basketball player. He would have made a huge impact with the Celtics, no question about it. I really enjoyed the Kirk Frasier documentary on Bias that ESPN aired as part of its 30 for 30 series. Have it saved on the trusty DVR. Incredible talent. If Bias were alive today, he would be (gulp) 46 years old, and probably 8-9 years into retirement. The Celtics would probably be several titles richer, and we'd probably be looking up in the rafters at his jersey. And Bias / Jordan would have no doubt defined much of the 90s. RIP, Lenny - we love you, man....

Although we never got to see the kind of player Bias was expected to become, it is often lost that it was Red's brilliance that made it all possible. A couple of seasons earlier he traded Gerald Henderson to the Sonics for their '86 first round pick. Gerald was a good player but not of star quality, someone who looked better than he was because of the players around him. From most accounts, there wasn't anything to suggest that Len had any kind of problems with drugs, and remember, prior to the Class of '86 - The Drug Draft, there hadn't been a lot of attention paid to this. Bias overdoses, Washburn washed out and later became homeless, Tarpley was kicked out and went bankrupt, and Bedford had issues as well, and these were all top ten pick players.

We can only speculate what it would have been like to have had Bias playing along side the original big three and a little later down the road with Lewis, but I'm pretty sure that it would have translated into some more banners hanging from the rafters.
