Kevin Garnett was back in uniform with the Celtics on Friday night during a home game against the Portland Trailblazers. It was a welcome sight with a welcome result, but even though Team Green won I still wasn't comfortable with the halftime lead (55-50) against a team playing on the road and playing without Brandon Roy. And even though they managed to pull out a win, I'm still reminded that the Celtics are not an elite team without KG, and they most certainly are not championship contenders without him contributing at something close to 100%.

Good article that I agree with on many of the points. One little issue though...

Also, if the Celtics want to continue their winning ways they should look to get younger via the NBA draft or by signing young free agents. This would make sense because their four best players are all over 30. One example; trying to sign Joe Johnson with the money they don't use to re-sign Ray Allen.

The C's payroll for next year without Ray's salary on the books is about $53M, which is right around the cap IIRC. The C's will only have the MLE to use on a free agent, Ray or no Ray.
