CSSNE is reporting the rumour (http://www.csnne.com/pages/landing?More-Celtics-trade-talk=1&blockID=168603&feedID=3945). This is the sort of trade that Boston could use to build towards the future and lengthen the window of opportunity. I disagree with the writer, though. I actually don't think that Vlad Rad is the most logical throw-in since I expect the Warriors to try and buy him out this summer. I expect that what the Warriors are looking for is to clean the decks for Larry Ellison so that he has room to spend his vast fortune on new players. So I'm guessing what they're really looking to do is Ray for Ellis & Maggette.

I thought the latest quote I read from Oakland was that they wanted to add another player the caliber of Maggette and Ellis. Of course, spin is a monkeyplucker.

If they give us Brandan Wright and we throw in Wanga Gut, I would do the deal, as stated.

Right, you can see it from their end. Allen allows Curry to take the reins, and fits in better there than here. Ellis & Maggette open a lot of scenarios for Boston this summer, so I'd really like to see it happen. Especially if it involved Louisiana Fats for Brandan Wright.

I am all aboard a Ray -> ??? trade (unless it includes an Eddy Curry acquisition and extension.)

BTW, Louisiana Fats is comic gold. That is one of your best yet.

I posted a bunch over on Facebook after hearing the little sideline bit about him wanting a new nickname...

I was going to start this thread last night, but my laptop shorted out because I was drooling all over the keyboard. The best commentary is acctually by Nelson himself. Ray's ability+contract+age right now equals a big joke. A year ago we might have gotten something for him, but now his trade value in only based on his expiring contract, not his play.

I'll take it. They need a big shot of youth and athleticism because as it stands they won't get past Atlanta in the playoffs. Their best shot would be to wear out Joe Johnson & JC Unsuperstar on the defensive end. Ellis & Maggette get Boston there.

I would take this in a heart beat Monta Ellis is crazy and he can take over a game by himself. He is so under rated I think he should be in the super star category. He scored over 35 points a game the last two games.

I can't see the Celts taking on that much salary for that long of a commitment.

So I did some fiddling with the ESPN Trade Machine and got this as a potential trade involving 3 teams:

Entertaining, but not happening. Golden State sees Biedrins & Curry as their foundation for the future.

Make any trade that can help the Celtics, but look at what you are getting and how they might fit in with the TEAM.

Ellis creats a number of problems. He has to have ball in his hands to be successful. So does Rondo. ????? Ellis and Rondo would make up a very small backcourt on "D". Ellis is only 6'2". Both try to play "D" with the Steals. Both would be posted up.

Ellis is a GUNNER! He takes over 22 shots a game. 916 shots already. PP, RA, and KG don't take over 12 shots a game. They gave up their shots to WIN. Ellis has the highest number of T/O's a game in the NBA -- 4.1 a game. 168 T/O's already.

So he is young, fast, can score, but has a lot of things that would give Doc fits. Would he fit in???

Billy is Right. The Warriors are looking t dump contracts.

Rick Riley the GM has had quite year.

Traded Al Harrington for Jamal Crawford — saving the team $600k in 08-09, and potentially saving them $10 million had Crawford caved to Nelson’s opt-out or else coercion.

Traded Marco Belinelli for Devean George — saving the team $1.6 million (all of George’s salary, which the Raptors covered), and avoiding an ugly option-year decision on Belinelli’s deal.

Traded Jamal Crawford for Speedy Claxton and Acie Law — saving the team $12 million, and providing a quick fix when Nelson’s Crawford coercion failed to convince him to opt-out.

Signed Mikki Moore — to a minimum salary deal.

Re-signed CJ Watson — to a qualifying offer (the lowest they could offer).

Traded Stephen Jackson and Acie Law for Vladimir Radmanovic and Raja Bell — saving the team $19 million and change over the course of the deals.

Signed Chris Hunter, Cartier Martin, and Anthony Tolliver — to minimum salary deals.

The handwriting is on the WALL!

There are warts in every deal, ultimately the idea behind Ellis & Randolph (while taking back Maggette) is to give the team some options this summer to extend their window by another couple of seasons. Come summer either Rondo or Ellis become trade chips to upgrade the team and re-tool giving themselves another 2-4 years at the top.

I like Monta Ellis, not a bad deal, GS gets their expiring. But if it went through would we really start Ellis at the 2? Great at attacking the basket, not the best shooter, not really 2 guard size, similar game to Rondo. Defenses would sag off of both of them. IDK seems like if we trading Ray we need a shooter to replace him.

It might just be me, but once we lose Allen, KG, and Pierce I don't think this team is going to do great under Rondo that is why I think he either develops that outside shot or we have no choice to go after a big name next year or the year after.
