Maybe you've seen this or heard of similar things recently... heinrich rumor du jour (http://www.suntimes.com/sports/basketball/bulls/2028927,CST-SPT-bullnt04.article). To match salaries we could offer Ray+Giddens for Heinrich+Thomas+ Johnson.

This has a lot of feasibility to it. First for us. We get better this year. Ray in not THAT RAY anymore. We don't really lose much from ray to heinrich, and I think it gives us a plus by not having Doc put the ball into Ray's hands so much. We would be renting Tyrus Thomas for half a season. He could be a huge athletic asset for us especially in the playoffs, or we could park him if he is a headcase. Johnson is a cheap, hard-working backup SF. In the future, we probably couldn't re-Thomas because we have little to flexibility--just a one-time run for a ring and he could rehab his career and up his value with a good playoff run. Heinrich could be that combo 1/2, and keeping either Daniels or TA would provide more size and balance. Plus Heinrich is a lot younger than Ray. Johnson is a backup SF, and we need one when we matchup against lebron, lewis, hedo or other quick PFs/big SFs.

Chicago would be able to reduce their commitments next year to around 26million, meaning they could go after one max guy, and one near-max guy. With a little luck, they can imagine they get bosh, wade and rose on their roster and only have to give up an over priced role player, a scrub, and a head case.

That's not even close to working as far as money goes.

It is within 25%, so it works. ESPN has chicago with trade exemptions that make the trade easier, but I didn't need to factor that in. My number for chicago's cap space may be off, but the main idea isnt--they get rid of 2 guys they aren't that interested in for extra cap space to go shopping this summer.

Boston Trade Breakdown
Change in Team Outlook: +4.3 ppg, +6.9 rpg, and +2.9 apg.

Incoming Players
Kirk Hinrich ($9.5 million) 10.1 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 4.6 apg in 32.3 minutes
Tyrus Thomas ($4.7 million) 8.3 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 1.0 apg in 21.8 minutes
James Johnson ($1.6 million) 2.8 ppg, 1.6 rpg, 0.4 apg in 9.4 minutes
Outgoing Players
Ray Allen ($18.8million) 15.8 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 2.8 apg in 36.7 minutes
J.R. Giddens ($1.0 million) 1.1 ppg, 0.9 rpg, 0.3 apg in 4.7 minutes

Ray makes $19.8 million. Boston would need to eat another salary to make the deal work for Chicago, so probably Salmons (since they need depth there anyway). And if they're bringing back T-Square the need for Davis vanishes, so he should probably be on the outbound shuttle.

Danny,

that deal or something like it has to be out there. Tyrus has his back to the wall in a contract year. Trade for him and let him play like crazy for a few months, and then let some other team overpay him in the summer.

David Alrdridge on nba.com's trade chatter mentioned that Heinrich could possibly end up wearing green this trade deadline

At this point I'd take Hinrich, Thomas, Johnson and a swap of firsts for Ray, even if Boston has to pitch in a little more (like Davis). They need to put themselves in a position to deal over the summer, and right now they're out of options if they let Ray's contract expire.

The most logical deal with Chicago is Ray Allen and Tony Allen for Hinrich -- Thomas -- Salmons! It works $$$$$ wise.

We give up Ray who will be 35 in July, and Tony who is 28 years old, and very injury prone.

We get Hinrich who is only one year older than Tony (29) and healthy -- Salmons who is 30 and Thomas who is 24 in July.

Chicago saves $17 million in future contracts. We get a PG -- SG -- Rebounder.

In the Kryto-Nate update they said the C's and Bulls are way too far apart on Hinrich, but it still could be explored.

I see Hinrich in Purple and Gold, but he'd be a good Celtic, he and Rondo would be a nice tandem at PG.

The Bulls are probably loathe to give up anything with Hinrich. They need to shit or get off the pot if they want to pursue Dwyane Wade this summer. Eliminating $15 million from next year's payroll puts them in the game.

Salmons is gone for expirings. Chicago has decided to clear as much space as possible to be a major dealer this summer. Considering most of the deals revolve around expirings and we have a big one, I have to believe there is a deal out there if ainge is bold enough to make one. At this point I'd take heinrich + jerome james + fodder for ray because 1) heinrich is better now and 2) he's better than who we could get with the mle and 3) at least his contract gets smaller.
